Interior Ministry has absolutely failed: Aitzaz Ahsan

QUETTA: Pakistan People’s Party leader Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan on Thursday criticised the Interior Ministry after two blasts within a week struck Quetta.

The PPP leader along with Leader of the Opposition Khursheed Shah reached Quetta today and talked to media representatives.

Ahsan said that the National Action Plan wasn’t implemented and the Interior Ministry has absolutely failed in this regard.

“We constituted the National Action Plan,” said Aitzaz adding that National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) should have been functional under the plan.

“Every agency’s attention should have been on Quetta and Balochistan,” said Ahsan pointing towards the second blast in the city which took place today, injuring 13 people.

He said that the Sindh government has taken responsibility of the injured shifted to Karachi following the deadly blast in Quetta on Monday.

“This is an example of national unity,” remarked the PPP leader.

The leader also demanded that a trust should be made for children and injured in the attack.

The Leader of the Opposition said that the National Action Plan has failed completely, adding that such incidents can be stopped if the plan is implemented.

“The government needs to change its non-serious attitude,” he said.

"It does not matter whether the government is weak or not. The state should not be weak," said Khursheed Shah.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday had addressed the National Assembly saying that terrorism would now be tackled with greater determination, adding that unity was necessary to face the enemy.

PPP and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers had staged a walkout from the National Assembly following Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan’s speech in the assembly.

At least 73 people were killed and as many as 112 people injured when a powerful explosion ripped through Quetta’s Civil Hospital on Monday.
