Shuja Khanzada killing: Gang held for involvement in deadly Attock suicide bombing

KARACHI: The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Sindh Police on Tuesday arrested four members of a banned terrorist outfit wanted for murder, extortion, armed robberies and kidnappings in the southern metropolis.

According to police, the accused were also involved in planning of the suicide bombing in Attock last August that claimed the lives of 19, including former Punjab Home Minister Col (r) Shuja Khanzada.

The police operation was carried out in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal are of the city. Among those detained include Syed Kashif Ali, Syed Alam, Azhar Hussain and Abdul Adeel.

According to SSP SIU Farooq Awan, the accused would adorn police uniforms when carrying out their criminal activities in Karachi.

The SSP told journalists that the accused were planning to kidnap a prominent personality when they were apprehended and had also prepared the suicide bomber to take out former Punjab home minister Shuja Khanzada.

Outlining their modus operandi, Awan said, the criminals would monitor advertisements on websites and select their victims by identifying their details from the internet.

The SIU raiding team recovered 2 Light Machine Guns and one AK-47 assault rifle from the accused.

Hardened Terrorists

SSP Faroor Awan further told journalists that Kashif Ali had formed the militant outfit Jundullah in 2007 and Abu Sufyan alias Muawiya was the leader of that group. Awan added, that Jundullah was involved in multiple terrorist activities.
