ATHENS: Three people were killed on Tuesday when a speedboat and a wooden tourist vessel collided near a popular Greek holiday island, the coastguard said.

Three people were also hurt in the crash off the island of Egina, officials said.

"We saw over 8-9 people in the sea... some were swimming, others were unconscious, dead," a witness told Greece's Mega broadcaster.

Another witness told Skai radio that the motorboat had sliced the launch in two.

"I saw a little girl... being given CPR but she was not responding," he said.

The nationalities of the victims have not yet been disclosed.

The two vessels were carrying 20 people in total, the coastguard said.
