80,000 flee homes after wildfire in Southern California

Firefighters were gaining ground against a wildfire burning in a Southern California mountain pass that has forced some 80,000 residents to flee their homes and has consumed dozens of structures.

The Blue Cut fire, named for a narrow gorge near its origin in the Cajon Pass about 75 miles (120 km) northeast of Los Angeles, has blackened 35,969 acres of drought-parched heavy brush and chaparral after breaking out on Tuesday.

Truck overturns near Sydney Airport

A truck loaded with fuel overturned near Sydney Airport causing traffic delays.

Fire-fighters had to drain the 34,000 litres of fuel out of the vehicle while spraying fire retardant before the truck was turned upright, local media reported.

The driver of a New Jersey Transit bus died from his injuries after colliding with another bus at the start of the morning commute in Newark.
