KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) member of Sindh Assembly, Khalid bin Wilayat has announced to part ways from the party after a controversial speech by the party supremo on Monday and subsequent unrest in Karachi.
Khalid bin Wilayat was elected to the provincial assembly from PS-105, Karachi on MQM's ticket. He announced to sever ties with the party and join Mustafa Kamal's Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP).
Earlier on Monday evening, MPA Irum Azeem Farooque said that she was resigning from her membership of the party as well as the Sindh Assembly.
"I have resigned from membership of both the MQM and the Sindh Assembly. They had suspended me for three months, but I heard slogans of Murdabad. For me, everything is Pakistan. We are Pakistanis. You cannot force us to raise slogans of Muradabad," she told Geo News over telephone.
The resignations follow violent protests by MQM workers and supporters in Karachi after party chief Altaf Hussain ordered them to attack the offices of Geo News, ARY, and Samaa media channels in the city.
At least one person was killed in the violence that ensued in the city today.
