Rain wreaks havoc in Lahore, two children killed

LAHORE: Heavy rain continues in the city with the MET Office predicting the monsoon currents are likely to continue for the next three to four days.

The downpour has led to streets being inundated and power outages in several areas as over 136 feeders tripped.

In rain related incidents, the roof of a house collapsed in the Manawa area. Family members present inside the house where injured and a young girl later succumbed to injuries. In another area another child has died to electrocution.

The worst hit area was Johar Town where 64 mm rain was recorded. Television footage available with Geo News showed vehicles immersed in water.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif directed all government authorities to remain alert. "Rain water should be drained out from low lying areas at the earliest," he said.

Water also entered the premises of the Supreme Court Registry in Lahore. According to reports the roof of the Punjab Assembly is also leaking due to the heavy rain.
