KARACHI: Mukka Chowk located in the stronghold of the MQM will have its name changed.
A notification is expected which will see the name of the famous landmark being changed to Shaheed-e-Milat Liaquat Ali Khan Chowk after Pakistan’s first prime minister.
Earlier, posters of MQM Quaid were removed from Mukka Chowk and Jinnah Ground.
The landmark was established in 1991 when Farooq Sattar was the city's mayor and renovated in 2009 during the mayorship of Mustafa Kamal.
On the other hand, decision has been taken to take off posters of MQM Quaid from Educational institutions.
According to sources in the education department, posters of MQM Quaid could be seen in many institutes. However, a decision has been taken to remove them.
They said that the universities have been told to stop activities regarding MQM Quaid.
They further said that the pictures of MQM Quaid posted by APMSO would soon be removed.
Many offices of the party have also been demolished in the city including unit offices near Mosmiyat and Quaidabad.
MQM offices in Sukhan, Sachal, and in the jurisdiction of Airport Police Station have also been demolished.
Sources also said that these offices were constructed on illegally acquired land.
The development comes in the wake of MQM leader Farooq Sattar announcing that the party was distancing itself from provocative statements made by the MQM Quaid and his assuming control of the party.
Sattar further said that decisions regarding the MQM would now be made from Pakistan.
