KARACHI: The provincial capital of Sindh received rainfall on Saturday turning the weather pleasant. While residents of the city appreciated the relief from hot weather, some arteries of the city saw traffic jams.
Malir, Landhi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Shahrah-e-Faisal received rain. Rain also gripped parts of New Karachi and North Karachi.
According to the MET Office, 34 MM of rain fell at University Road, 23 MM was recorded at Pehlwan Goth, 13 MM recorded at North Karachi, and 26 at Landhi.
Strong winds also resulted in tents at the cattle market being uprooted.
In Gadap, the roof of a house collapsed resulting in the death of a child while three people have been injured. In Qauidabad, the wall of a house collapsed.
K-Electric has urged citizens to stay away from broken electricity wires and contact 118 in case of an emergency. 400 feeders in the city tripped due to rain, while 50 feeders have been restored.
MD Waterboard has visited the low lying areas of the city. A rain emergency has been enforced at the Water Board and crew has been called in for drainage.
A spokesperson for the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation said that 24 teams had been dispatched to low lying areas of the city to drain rainwater. Seven rain pumps are draining water, the KMC spokesman added.
The Met Department had forecast thunderstorms in Karachi over the weekend.
