1,040 killings in Balochistan during last two years

ISLAMABAD: The Senate's Standing Committee on Human Rights has sought details from the Frontier Corps (FC) over mutilated bodies found in Balochistan.

The committee, which met in Islamabad on Wednesday, was briefed by DIG Investigations and Crime who informed that 1,040 people have been killed in Balochistan in the last two years. 153 have been attributed to target-killing. 52 mutilated bodies found were not claimed by family members, while 764 were murdered.  There were 49 sectarian killings for which FIRs were not lodged by relatives.

The DIG further said investigations were carried out but no evidence was found of the involvement of security agencies. He added that the killing of Mullah Akhtar Mansoor did not happen in the jurisdiction of the police.

Member of the committee, Senator Farahtullah Babar, said it seemed that the police was under pressure from some agency.  The committee has summoned FC officials to the next meeting to get details regarding the B-areas of Balochistan.

The committee decided to write a letter to the interior minister over the detainment and release of 6,000 people, the killing of Aftab Ahmed, and the continuous absence of Singh Rangers from the committee's proceedings.

Details over the alleged extrajudicial killing of 60 people have also been sought from DG Rangers and Chief Secretary Sindh by Chairman of the National Commission of Human Rights.
