Torrential downpour inundates various areas in Lahore

LAHORE: After a brief period of two days, heavy rain once again lashed Lahore on Thursday inundating various low-lying areas in the provincial capital.

The start of the day in Lahore was marked by a bright sun shining on the horizon, yet all of a sudden dark clouds gathered over the city in the afternoon.

At first, the cool breeze turned the weather pleasant and then it rained, and rained heavily. Heavy downpour coupled with gusts of wind led to collapse of a wall of Police Lines in Qila Gujjar Singh.

Roads were flooded with rain water in Hijveri Colony, Ring Road, Canal Road, Mall Road, Jail Road, College Road Township and Lakshmi Chowk areas.

Vehicles were stuck as the rainwater seeped into internal parts and massive traffic snarl-ups were seen in the city.

Met Office recorded 93 millimeter rain in the city and 21 millimeter in and around the airport area. It further said the spell may continue on Friday.
