MARDAN: The Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif visited victims of the bomb blasts at the district court.

The army chief met the injured at the Mardan Medical Complex where they had been brought for treatment.

At least 13 people were killed and 35 injured when two bomb blasts hit the courthouse.

The attacker threw a hand grenade at the courthouse causing the first explosion. A policeman who saw him opened fire causing the attacker's suicide vest to detonate, resulting in the second explosion.

According to eye witnesses’ accounts the attacker arrived at the site on foot seemingly from a market, police said. The area was cordoned off by security officials and an investigation is underway.
