LAHORE/RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Awami League chief Dr Tahir ul Qadri left his Model Town residence in Lahore to lead a sit-in at Rawalpindi.
Qadri will lead the rally from Liaquat Bagh to Rahmanabad in Rawalpindi to demand justice for families of the Model Town victims.
Roads leading to Lal Haveli in Rawalpindi have been sealed by containers ahead of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) planned sit-in in the city. The main Murree road has been completely blocked causing great distress for the city’s residents. Police has also been deployed at Metrobus stations in the city.
According to reports, due to traffic, a woman died in an ambulance while on her way to the hospital.
Chairman Awami League Sheikh Rasheed gave the government deadline till 3 PM to remove the blockades. "If you do not remove the blockades we will find our own way."
Addressing the Central Core Committee meeting and later talking to Awami Muslim League leader Sheikh Rashid on phone on Friday, Qadri said lawyers would also participate in the rally and protest against the Quetta killings.
He said the way all the forces plundering public wealth from the country had come together, all the forces protecting national interests and solidarity must also come into one fold and wage a struggle against the corrupt rule.
