Ex-security officer of BB becomes approver

ISLAMABAD: SP Ashfaq Anwar, has become approver in assassination case of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, Geo News reported Saturday.

The official was responsible for Benazir’s safety. In his confessional statement, SP Ashfaq held ex CPO Rawalpindi, Saud Aziz, for flaw in security arrangements for the two-time prime minister.

When contacted, Saud Aziz said he would record his statement in the court.

The final challan prepared by the Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) on the orders of a special Rawalpindi court blamed police officers of failing to provide security and ignorance while some officials have been acquitted from the allegations.

SP Ashfaq recorded his statement under clause 116 of Pakistan Penal Code before an Islamabad Magistrate. He stated that he was on his duty with police commandos on that day but CPO Saud Aziz assigned him another task. He was sent to secure rally of Nawaz Sharif.
