MUZAFFARABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited Azad Kashmir prior to his speech in the United Nations General Assembly.

The prime minister met the Azad Kashmir prime minister and president and also met Hurriyat leaders separately, sources said.

"We will continue to strive for Kashmir's right to self determination," he said.

The prime minister took up issues related to the atrocities inflicted by the Indian Army in occupied Kashmir during the meeting, sources added.

He said India’s repression and brutality were not acceptable in any case and called for the international community to break its silence over the issue.

The prime minister further said Kashmiris’ anger was justified given the situation. The occupied valley is under curfew for the last 70 days and over 100 people have been killed for protesting against the Indian government.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister House, Nawaz Sharif will leave for New York on Saturday, September 17 and will address the General Assembly on September 21.

Due to the visit the National Apex Committee session has been postponed.
