KARACHI: Javed Akbar Riaz has been appointed the Malir SSP after Rao Anwar was suspended for carrying out a raid and arresting a Muttahida Qaumi Movement parliamentarian.
A notification for his appointment has been issued, sources told Geo News
Meanwhile former SSP Malir Rao Anwar challenged suspension orders in Sindh High Court on Monday.
In his plea, Rao Anwar said that he did not break any law when he handcuffed and detained MQM-Pakistan leader Khawaja Izhar ul Hasan.
He also claimed in the request that the suspension orders are illegal.
The court on Monday heard the case and issued notices to the chief secretary, interior minister, Sindh Police IG and others.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Friday had suspended SSP Malir Rao Anwar, saying that the SSP's method of arrest without a warrant was illegal.
Murad Ali Shah had said that Rao Anwar had acted independently without informing the Police IG or the Chief Minister.
Meanwhile Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani had argued before arresting a parliamentarian the speaker has to be informed.
Khawaja Izharul Hasan was released after five hours of detainment on Friday. Police raided his house in his absence and later took him away in handcuffs.
SSP Malir had reacted to the news saying that “it was not a big deal, these are routine things in police.”
He had said that the MQM leader was arrested under two cases, 16/378 and 16/374, registered in Site Superhighway police station.
The cases are registered under anti-terrorism and incitement for rebellion charges, he had added.
