Uri attack may be reaction to Indian atrocities in Occupied Kashmir: PM Nawaz

LONDON: The militant attack on an Indian army base in Uri may be a reaction to India's atrocities in Occupied Kashmir, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif told reporters in London on Friday during a stopover in the UK on his return from New York.

The prime minister was in New York to attend the General Assembly session of the United Nations, where he raised the case of innocent Kashmiris who have been killed and hundreds blinded by shotgun pellets at the hands of the occupying Indian army.

Speaking to reporters during a brief press conference at the Luton Airport, the prime minister said India "does not speak about its atrocities, but only levels allegations at others".

"Pakistan was accused within 12 hours of the Uri attack. India placed blame on Pakistan immediately after the attack without any inquiry. No sensible person will accept this," he said.

The premier said Pakistan was preparing for the upcoming SAARC conference, and hoped all heads of member states would attend the session.
