Congo virus claims another victim in Lahore

LAHORE: Another patient suffering from Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever or Congo virus died in Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital in the wee hours of Monday.

According to details, 16-year-old Zaheer from Kot Radha Kishan was brought to the hospital a few days ago and was diagnosed with the disease.

The death toll from the virus in Punjab has climbed to four this year. The body of the boy has been handed over to his relatives.

Congo virus is a viral disease that is commonly spread by ticks found on hairy animals. It can transfer from one infected person to the other and may result in death. Animals with thicker hair are at a higher risk of being infected with the virus.

According to health experts, health care workers caring for patients with suspected or confirmed Congo virus or handling specimens from them should implement standard infection control precautions.

These include basic hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment, safe injection practices and safe burial practices.
