India hasn't officially informed about participation in SAARC summit: Aizaz

KARACHI: India has not officially informed Pakistan that it would not be attending the forthcoming South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit in Islamabad, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry said Tuesday.

Speaking to the anchorperson in Geo News' program 'Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath', Chaudhry said India has been pressurising other states as well to not attend the summit due in November 2016.

Earlier, the Indian ministry of external affairs said, "In the prevailing circumstances, the government of India is unable to participate in the proposed SAARC summit in Islamabad".

"We also understand that some other SAARC member states have also conveyed their reservations about attending the summit in Islamabad," wrote a spokesperson for the ministry on Twitter.

Of late, tensions between the nuclear-armed adversaries soared over the Indian-occupied Kashmir (IoK) after the killing of over 110 innocent Kashmiris in fresh incidents of violence.

The atrocities by Indian state forces are meant to subdue the latest uprising kindled by the martyrdom of a pro-independence Kashmiri youth leader Burhan Wani and subsequent protests in the occupied valley.
