QUETTA: A remote controlled bomb blast killed at least two persons and injured 11 others including police personnel on Sariab Road on Wednesday noon.
Police sources said that unidentified gunmen had planted a 3-kg bomb explosive with an electricity pylon at Munir Mengal Chowk in Shafi Colony near the University of Balochistan on Sariab Road which was detonated at 12: 45pm.
The explosion damaged a mobile van of 15-Madadgar Police parked there and nearby pushcarts, in which the driver of the van Sadaqat Ali and a passerby were killed on the site.
Eleven other persons including five police personnel sustained injuries.
The affected policemen were identified as Con. Liaquat Ali, Con. Muhammad Jabbar, Con. Wazir Ahmed, Con. Abdul Manan and Con. Asif.
The civilian injured were identified as Ashiq, Khuda Bakhsh, Naik Muhammad, Muhammad Rasool, Azam and Muhammad Rahim. The bodies and the injured were shifted to Civil Hospital and Bolan Medical Complex Quetta where some of the injured were stated in critical condition. Doctors have appealed to citizens to donate blood for the injured.
The police sources further told that it was a routine matter that two mobile vans of 15-Madadgar Police used to patrol the area on daily basis.
The Edhi ambulances shifted the bodies and injured to the hospital where emergency had been declared. The explosion has created panic and harassment in the area.
A police team comprising senior officials and experts has been investigating the incident.
