Imran pushes PPP for 'minus-Zardari' formula

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Thursday asked the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) to exclude Asif Ali Zardari.

Speaking to media after a party meeting here, Imran Khan slammed the PPP for conniving with the government on Panama Papers leaks, adding, "Zardari does not want the PM to be held accountable". He added there can be no opposition as friendly as that of Khursheed Shah.

"We even backed Khursheed Shah despite the fact that he himself was on government's payroll," Khan said. "The opposition leader himself is facing charges of corruption."

"They say that we went for a solo flight. We took to streets upon witnessing no progress on the terms of reference (ToRs) of Panama Papers probe," he explained.

These rulers took turns and left no morality, said the PTI chairman. Nawaz Sharif has been proven guilty and we cannot acknowledge him as the prime minister any further.

He, however, praised Aitzaz Ahsan for actually wanting the accountability of the prime minister. "There are some PPP members who actually seek accountability of the PM, but those at the helm do not let it happen."

"All political parties are united on Panama Papers probe," he asserted.

Planning for sit-in

The skipper went on to say that his party was planning for a protest sit-in and it would continue to boycott the assembly until their demands were not met.

He appealed the masses to participate in the sit-in for the sake of country.

'PM's accountability to strengthen democracy'

Khan demanded PM Nawaz Sharif to follow in the footsteps of Iceland's premier and step down, and present himself for accountability.

PM's accountability would further strengthen the democracy.

Earlier, Imran Khan was seen rejoicing a war of words which took place between the PPP and PML-N during the joint session of parliament.

In a video, Imran Khan was seen meeting PTI leader Asad Umer and saying: “Congratulations there was a fight today.”

Asad Umer expressed his surprise over the matter to which Imran Khan said “don’t you know what happened.” To this Umer replied: “I don’t know”

Imran after this exchange was heard on the video telling Asad Umer that there was a tussle between the PPP and PML-N and the session had to be adjourned.
