KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday declared more than 5 percent hike in private school fees 'illegal'.
The SHC resumed hearing of a case pertaining to the hike in schools' fees today, during which the court turned down petitions filed by private school owners in support of increase in fees.
The court also ordered the provincial education department to ensure strict implementation of rules and regulations for private educational institutions.
Last month, parents had protested across the country demanding action to prevent the private schools from imposing such exorbitant fee hikes.
The demonstrations had also forced the prime minister to take notice of the matter. He had said that he was concerned with the increase in fees and the problems it had created for parents.
Provincial governments should ensure that fees of private schools were affordable for the public, the premier was quoted as saying.
