KARACHI: Veteran Pakistan batsman Javed Miandad on Sunday accused Shahid Afridi of match-fixing, shortly after the latter passed derogatory remarks about him.
"I tell Afridi to swear upon his children and say he has not thrown away Pakistan's matches. I am a witness, I caught him myself," said Miandad.
"If there was money…I [would not have] left the team myself. I caught [match-fixers in] the whole team. Right? These people are fixers. And then they talk about money?" said the legendary batsman.
Miandad said Afridi has no place in the national cricket team.
"It is up to the board to decide whether to include him or not," he said.
Upon Afridi's earlier remarks, the legendary cricketer said Afridi needs to apologise over his words.
"Even we had to leave our places for other youngsters," he said.
The verbal spat between the two started when Miandad criticised Afridi of 'running after money' for his farewell match.
While responding to Miandad's remarks at a press conference earlier today, Afridi mocked Miandad, saying "he has always faced money issues in the past, and continues to do so".
Afridi said that a senior cricketer like Miandad shouldn't stoop this low
"I think cricketers of such high calibre should not stoop this low. That’s the difference between Imran Khan and Javed Miandad," he said.
But, in messages posted on Twitter later in the day, Afridi regretted his earlier remarks.
Javed Miandad is legend of cricket but he used very harsh words on TV for long time. He made personal attack on me for no reason1/2

I regret what I said to a senior but of course I had to eventually react to his behaviour.
