LAHORE: Asma Jehangir, newly elected President of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) here on Thursday said that independent bar was vital for independent judiciary.
Talking to mediamen at the Lahore High Court Bar Association premises, she said that lawyers had elected an independent and enlightened bar in the elections, adding, "Neither we are with the government nor with the judiciary rather, we will play our role in an independent capacity," she added.
Asma said that she was not afraid of any body, "We believe in giving due respect and taking respect," she added.
To a question, she said that lawyers would never care of their lives and even like to go to jails, if required, for the cause of independent judiciary and human rights issue.
She vowed to struggle for the provision of justice to the oppressed and destitute. She also vowed to play role for the provision of justice to thousands of people who were imprisoned and waiting for justice.
