DAHARKI: When Sindh’s young sports minister Sardar Muhammad Bux Khan Mahar came into the spotlight in August, he wasn’t being taken seriously. Maybe because he was challenging counterparts from other provinces to a push-up challenge while sportsmen in his native Daharki were protesting about the state of their stadium.
The stadium was flooded, parts of it resembled a garbage dump. The young minister was furious, he gave the administration two months to fix the stadium, but it seems he still wasn’t taken seriously.
When Mahar arrived at the Daharki stadium on Thursday, it no longer looked like the garbage dump it once did, there were still remnants where once mounds of garbage once lay, but it was still inundated.
Somehow satisfied with the direction things were headed in, the young minister announced Rs 5 million for the upkeep of the stadium.
Speaking to journalists on the occasion, Mahar said he is against people grabbing land designated for sports facilities. Not forgetting the push-ups, Mahar told journalists that he will raise the bar and this time will drop and do 100 push-ups.
Whether his counterparts from Punjab drop to down to give their 100 is not known, but Mahar did hint that he will be inviting Punjab to host a game of cricket or football between the provincial teams.
