A 17-year-old Muslim girl from Australia has been granted the right to box wearing a hijab.
According to a Daily Mail report, Raianne Alameddine had been banned from fighting last year because the hijab and leggings she wore were deemed to be unsafe.
Expressing her disappointment, Raianne continued to train and just last week was given the go ahead to fight. The 17-year-old fought on Saturday, becoming the first amateur boxer in New South Wales to fight wearing a hijab.
There was no winner as the fight was an exhibition match, but Raianne said she was relieved and thrilled.
“The fact I came out safe and there were no hazards with me fighting with my scarf on, proves it should be allowed all around the world,” Raianne said.
