Pakistan, China celebrate 65 years of diplomatic relations

ISLAMABAD: A colorful ceremony was held in the capital today to mark 65 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.

Addressing the ceremony, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid and China’s Ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will usher in a new era of development in the region.

Ambassador Sun Weidong said that work on CPEC is underway at a rapid pace, adding that the project will transform the region and bring benefits to all the people of Pakistan.

Pervaiz Rashid said that CPEC will further enhance the relationship between Pakistan and China. Paying tribute to the Pakistan-China friendship, the minister said the friendship between the two neighbours is “deeper than the deepest oceans”.

The occasion was highlighted by the performances of Chinese and Pakistani artists, who represented the culture of the two countries.

The event was also attended by participants of the Ningxia Car Rally Friendly Tour to Pakistan and Arab States, who stayed overnight in Islamabad. The China-Pakistan Friendship car rally crossed the Khunjerab pass to enter Pakistan on Friday. The rally comprises at least 20 cars and is aimed at highlighting CPEC and the Silk Route. It will pass through different cities of Pakistan and reach Gwadar, from where it will head to UAE.
