Panama leaks: Govt prepares for legal battle with PTI

ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to fight a legal battle with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over a petition it has filed in the Supreme Court pertaining to the Panama Papers leaks.

A political meeting chaired by PM Nawaz Sharif discussed the matter of PTI's petition against the prime minister in the apex court. Federal ministers and senior party leaders also laid recommendations in this regard, in a meeting held to review the political situation of the country.

The attendees at the meetings argued that the leaked documents from a Panama-based law firm did not include PM Sharif's name, and so there should be no worries at all. "It was the government itself, who approached the apex court on Panama leaks first of all," they recalled.

"The decision by the court to hear PTI's petition indeed supports government's stance," said PM's affiliates at the meeting. "Previously, the judicial commission annulled poll-rigging claims and this time too the government would come out clear."

It was then decided that the government will fight a legal battle with PTI.

Sources said that PM Nawaz Sharif will finalise a team of legal experts and will hold consultation with in this regard.
