QUETTA: Iran released 18 Pakistani fishermen on Wednesday, three days after they were captured by Iranian Coast Guards on charges of allegedly trespassing Iranian territorial waters, officials said.

The fishermen, who hailed from Jiwani district in Balochistan, were arrested from sea by the Iranian Coast Guards on Sunday.

Speaking to Geo News, Deputy Commissioner Gwadar Dr Tufail Ahmed Baloch said the arrested fishermen were released at the Pakistan-Iran border at Taftan.

He added that the release was due to the negotiations with the relevant Iranian authorities at Chahbahar.
