ISLAMABAD: A sessions court on Friday issued a notice to Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif over Rs. 30 billion defamation case filed against him by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Jahangir Tareen.

In the suit filed on Thursday, Jahangir Tareen accused Shehbaz Sharif of making “false allegations” over the plaintiff’s loans. The PTI leader rejected Shahbaz’s claim that he had loans written off from banks. According to Tareen, the chief minister made these allegations at a public gathering on April 25.

Tareen stated in the suit that the chief minister had repeated the allegations at a press conference on October 26.

Islamabad District and Sessions Judge Kamran Basharat Mufti heard the case earlier today and issued a notice for November 12 to Sharif.
