Malir court had approved Abidi's bail plea against a sum of Rs 50,000

KARACHI: Former Senator Faisal Raza Abidi has been released from prison after his bail plea against a sum of Rs 50,000 was approved earlier on Thursday. 

A Malir Session Court judge approved the bail plea.

A case for possessing illegal weapons has been filed against Abidi at the Sachal Police station. According to investigative officials, five different kinds of illegally possessed weapons were recovered from his residence in Karachi.

Abidi was arrested from his residence in New Rizvia Society during a late night raid on Friday. His house was searched for half an hour, before he was moved to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

According to police, Abidi was arrested on charges of a target-killing incident in Patel Para in which two people were killed.

Abidi, known for his firebrand speeches for his former party, Pakistan People’s Party, resigned from the Senate in 2014.
