KARACHI: The under custody suspects, Asim alias Capri and Ishaq Bobi on Friday confessed to gunning down three Rangers personnel in Ittehad Town, days after they were named as the main culprits behind Amjad Sabri’s killing.
According to investigation officers, both the suspects’ primary target was a senior FIA official who was supposed to offer Friday prayers at mosque but failed to show up and the suspects instead shot down Rangers personnel.
The investigation also revealed that the attack on the Rangers officials posted on duty outside a mosque was just spontaneous and not planned.
The day Capri and Bobi killed the security officials, they had a third accomplice in an auto. The FIA officer did not come to offer prayers that day.
The two suspects after offering prayers came out and opened fire on Rangers personnel and took their weapons which they threw away later on. They put their weapons into the rickshaw and fled on motorcycles.
The accomplice in Rickshaw later shifted the weapons to the suspects’ shop.
Earlier, the chief minister Sindh had said two criminals Ishaq alias Bobby and Asim alias Capri involved in Amjad Sabri's murder had been arrested from the Liaqatabad area of Karachi. A large cache of weapons was also recovered from their possession.
The criminals were arrested by CTD in-charge Raja Umer Khitab and are involved in nine high-profile cases. Among the high-profile cases the two are accused in, include the October 30 attack on a Majlis in Nazimabad, attack on two Army personnel in Saddar parking plaza.
In Nov last year, at least three Rangers personnel were killed when gunmen riding motorcycles opened fire on their vehicle.
Asim alias Capri was arrested in 2013
Interestingly, the criminal mentioned by the CM, Asim alias Capri was also arrested in July 2013.
Chaudhry Aslam said he had arrested Asim alias Capri in the murder case of MPA Sajid Qureshi.
According to police, in 2015 Asim was released on bail and started criminal activity.
