Police crackdown on cars with fancy number plates, 44 detained

KARACHI: Police continued their crackdown on cars carrying illegal or fancy number plates overnight, with Gulberg police seizing 37 cars and detaining 44 people.

Police also cracked down on people violating one-way traffic rules. According to SSP Police, 66 people have been arrested from District South in 10 days over one-way violations. 13 people were sent to prison whereas 53 people were fined.

Two target-killers arrested in CTD operation

In a separate incident the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Tuesday arrested two target-killers during a raid in the city’s Korangi area.

According to SSP CTD Naveed Khawaja, the target-killers, Imran and Zahid, belong to Raees Mama group and were wanted for several crimes. Zahid admitted to killing five people from a rival group in Korangi in 2011, SSP said, adding that Zahid also killed three people on orders of unit in-charge Irfan in 2009.

The other target-killer, Imran, was released from prison under NRO, SSP Naveed Khawaja said, adding that Imran was involved in Chakra Goth tragedy in which three police officials were martyred and over 27 people were injured.

The suspect was also wanted for killing of PPP and MQM workers, the official added.
