Quetta exhibition highlights women plight

QUETTA: Artists in Balochistan have depicted depression, deprivation, and restrictions related to women folk in their paintings displayed here on Wednesday.

It was the theme of an "Art Exhibition" organized by the Fine Arts Department of Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University Quetta here at the main campus of the varsity. The hundreds of the paintings and sculptures were put on display.

The oddity of the exhibition was the theme chosen by the majority of the students in which they had portrayed the sufferings and hardships being faced by women since childhood till the late age. "I have observed that a woman has no choice in the man-dominated society as she is bound to follow the instructions of those who are her close relatives, no matter in shape of a father, brother even a mother," Maryam Fayaz, the student of Fine Arts Department illustrated her views in her paintings.

The students of Balochistan are not less talented than those of other provinces, said Fatima, a student of BBA while visiting the exhibition, adding government should establish Fine Arts University in Balochistan to give an opportunity to the local students who are forced to take admission to varsities of other parts of the country.

I am impressed from the work of Farida Kasi who disseminated the message of peace and love brushing the painting of the religious places, said another visitor Sana.

Durdana, Teacher of Fine Arts Department commenting on the ideas lauded the efforts of the students as saying despite meager resources such an unprecedented Art work is being created by the students of SBK Fine Arts Department.

She urged the authorities concerned to provide necessary equipments to the sole women university of the province so that they could come up with their talent besides competing the other students learning in well equipped varsities.
