ISLAMABAD: Senior lawyer Hamid Khan on Friday telephoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan and excused himself from representing the party in the Panama Leaks case taken up by the Supreme Court.

During the telephonic conversation, the two party leaders discussed different aspects of the ongoing case in the SC.

Chairman PTI praised Hamid Khan on the services rendered by him and requested him to continue assistance of the party’s legal team.

Hamid Khan spoke to Geo News and said “after media’s campaign against me, it was not possible to continue with the case’s proceedings.”

“We lawyers have our own way of presenting a case, which is why I refused to continue with the case,” he said, adding that he informed Imran that he cannot 'fight the battle on the media front."

Hamid Khan while responding to a question said that PTI still supports him.

When asked if he thinks PTI has any chances to win the case he responded that he believes the party’s stance has weight.

“If it wasn’t like that I would have never agreed to fight the case for PTI,” he said.

Hamid Khan said that the court will in the end decide who’s right or wrong, adding that he hopes the case goes in PTI’s favour.

It emerged on Thursday that Imran Khan is considering to replace one of his existing lawyers in the Panama Leaks case. In a session of PTI’s legal team under Imran Khan the party leaders advised him to seek a replacement for main lawyer Hamid Khan, who failed to effectively put forth the party's stance.

In yesterday's hearing, SC's Justice Azmat Saeed said if the claims of the children of the prime minister prove true then PTI's petition will be dismissed. "Now it is up to you Hamid Khan sahib that you pay attention to the documents submitted by the Prime Minister's children," he had told PTI's lawyer.

Only PTI knows if Hamid is 'scared', says Dar

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar was talking to media in Lahore where he was asked about Hamid Khan’s refusal to represent PTI in Panama case.

One of the media persons asked him if he thinks Hamid Khan is ‘scared’, to which he responded that only PTI can answer this.

He said that Panama matter is in court and truth will prevail.

The country’s political situation is fine and the government will complete its tenure.
