ECP Sindh member placed on Exit Control List

KARACHI: Name of the elected Election Commission of Pakistan (Sindh) member Abdul Ghaffar Soomro is put on the Exit Control List due to ongoing corruption investigations by National Accountability Bureau and Federal Investigation Agency against him.

According to sources privy to development, Soomro is facing investigation against the corruption charges of Rs two billion on alleged non-transparent land deals. In the same case, former chairman of the Evacuee Trust Property is also nominated. Soomro remained the member of Evacuee Trust Property from 2007 to 2009.

Soomro was cleared from corruption charges by the lower courts, however, NAB and FIA challenged those decisions in High Court.

Earlier, at Karachi International Airport, NAB and FIA barred Soomro from taking flight to the US. Later on the permission from Prime Minister House, his name was taken off from the ECL on the grounds of one-time-favour but was immediately reinstated on his return to Pakistan.
