From toddlers to grandparents, selfies have become a part of everyone’s lives. But not everyone is an expert and realizing that you’re not looking your best after you’ve just taken a selfie has probably happened to everyone at least once.
Photography has come a long way since the days of developing film; the smartphones of today can give a tough fight to most still photography and video cameras.
Photoshop has been the go-to tool for generations of photo editors, but the smartphone with an ever-evolving plethora of Apps has empowered everyone to create masterpieces – even if only in their own opinion.
There is Life beyond Filters
The vanity of humans has no limits. Sixty million posts per day on Instagram and 350 million pictures being uploaded per day on Facebook are testaments to that claim.
Grandma’s dentures, last night’s dessert, the drawing your 5yo made for you; from the weirdest to the most beautiful they all make the cut.
Taking pictures was once a way to capture that special moment, that memory forever. Today people take more pictures than they can handle. We run out memory on our phones simply because of the pictures are taking up too much space.
Since simply taking pictures wasn’t enough for the smartphone user, applications introduced ‘filters’ to make your captured moment look even better (or worse).
Instagram, Snapchat and the many more copycats down the list offer such filters, some allow manipulating the hue, tint or exposure, while others allow you to tweak away blemishes and dampen out shiny foreheads.
But anyone with a girlfriend, wife or even sister would vouch, there’s always something that could have been better. We’ve all heard the complaints; could have smiled a little bigger, someone’s eyes aren’t open enough, her nose looks too big, the list goes on.
Tune that Face
Facetune 2 released on Monday, a follow up of the original app from 2013 by Lightening allows users to edit their selfies in a way most selfie experts have surely only imagined beind possible on a smartphone.
The App allows you to reshape facial features. Like that smile that wasn’t big enough, that nose that looked too big and that jawline you wished was a little trimmed.
Facetune 2 relies on an artificial intelligence algorithm to ‘understand’ how a feature should be changed to fit with the rest of the user’s face.
With the ability to tweak just about anything Facetune 2 is the swiss army knife of photo editing Apps. We at Geo.tv took it for a spin (so to speak) and the following are some edits staffers at Geo.tv came up with in their spare time.
Now that you know what the Application is capable of, maybe its time to ponder over whether any limits to our vanity exist.
