China begins constructing a life-size Titanic replica

A hundred years after it sank on its maiden voyage, a full-scale replica of Titanic is under construction in China.

Guests who board the ship, once its finished, will not only experience the luxuries but also be knocked down by a simulated iceberg collision.

Over 1500 people died in April 1912 when the Titanic hit an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean.

The new version of the ship will be constructed in China’s Sichuan province.

The CEO of Seven Star Energy Investment Group, which is creating the ship, defended his decision to recreate one of the most fatal marine accidents in modern history.

Speaking to Reuters, Su Shaojin said: “It's not like a certain country owns this thing. Just like the US can make Kung Fu Panda and that's very common. Same with Mulan. For China, the Titanic represents something of universal value.”

The company has been criticized for using a tragedy to make money.

The ship is expected to make its maiden voyage in 2017.
