ISLAMABAD: Singer-turned preacher Junaid Jasmhed’s body has been identified, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Mushtaq Ahmad said on Monday.

According to the deputy commissioner Islamabad, the body was identified after a face x-ray and using dental history. Junaid Jamshed along with his wife was killed when Islamabad-bound PIA PK-661 flight crashed near Havelian while en route to Islamabad from Chitral on Wednesday.

Renowned singer-turned-preacher's brother, Humayun Jamshed said that Junaid's funeral prayers will be held at Moin Khan Academy Ground DHA in Karachi on Thursday after receiving DNA results.

Remains of pilot Saleh, Junaid Jamshed’s wife handed over to relatives

Earlier, the officials at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) confirmed that the bodies of pilot captain Saleh Janjua, wife of Junaid Jamshed and an Austrian citizen have been identified. Later on, the remains of Saleh Janjua and Nahya Jamshed were handed over to relatives.

Nahya Jamshed's body was received by her mother. Nahya's body will be sent to Lahore and her funeral prayers will be held tomorrow (Tuesday).

Captain Saleh Janjua's body was received by his sister. Janjua's funeral prayers will be held at Race Court in Rawalpindi.

Officials earlier said that forensic teams at PIMS were working round the clock for identification of the bodies. A total of 12 out of 47 victims have been identified till now.

Today, a six-member team from the ATR company arrived in Islamabad to probe the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) PK-661 crash. 

The team comprises manufacturing, crash scene and other experts.

According to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) sources, debris from the crash site will be moved after the team completes its inspection.

The team of French and Canadian experts will work alongside the Safety Investigation Board.
