CHAKWAL: Police on Monday evening dispersed a crowd of people who had surrounded the place of worship of a minority group in Choa Saidanshah tehsil of Chakwal district, officials said.
According to police, a charged crowd of people surrounded the worship place of the minority group around 10 AM this morning. At least three people were injured in the incident of firing and pelting of stones that ensued between the opposing groups.
However, police said they successfully carried out an operation to disperse the crowd which had surrounded the place of worship.
Police claim that a legal battle has been taking place in court between the two groups.
According to a statement issued by the Punjab government on its official Twitter account, a misunderstanding developed between the two groups and the provincial Home Department is vigilantly following up on the issue.
Punjab Government believes in fair application of law irrespective of any discrimination of caste, creed and color, said the statement issued earlier today, adding that all the citizens are bound by law and no one would be allowed to violate it.
The deputy commissioner in Choa Saidanshah has announced that schools and educational institutions would remain closed on Tuesday in the tehsil following the incident.
