LAHORE: Six people, including a minor girl, were killed in fog-related accidents on Tuesday, as heavy fog descended on the city and adjoining areas early morning.
However, fog in Punjab has started to lift now, and flights at Lahore airport have resumed. The motorway has also been reopened for traffic.
The Met mentioned that the fog is expected to continue for a week, although chances remain that it may extend for longer.
Earlier, the intense fog condition caused overnight suspension of flight schedules and closure of several sections of the motorway. Allama Iqbal Airport authorities informed that the heavy fog prompted suspension of local and international flights.
Meanwhile, zero visibility at the motorway had halted traffic at the sections from Lahore to Pindi Bhattiyan and Sheikhupura. The motorway section between Pindi Bhattiyan to Faisalabad and Gujra was also closed. Commuters faced severe difficulties traveling on the GT road from Lahore to Okara.
The weather condition brought traffic on National Highway to a standstill, and traffic situation went out of control in Gujranwala. Severe fog also disturbed daily activities in Patuki, Sahiwal, and Mian Channu.
