Google’s ‘Year in Pakistan Search’ reveals interesting trend

Singer and model Qandeel Baloch was the most searched person by the Pakistanis, revealed Google on Wednesday in its annual ‘Year in Pakistan Search’ list.

Social media sensation Qandeel was allegedly killed by her brother in an apparent honour killing on July 16, 2016.

The murder took place when Qandeel was sleeping at her house in Muzaffabad, her parents said in a statement recorded to the police. Her parents were sleeping on the rooftop.

Momina Mustehsan, who shot to fame during Coke Studio Season 9, was also in the list while Pakistanis seemed to be quite interested in US elections 2016 as both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton made it to the list. Melania Trump, the wife of Donald Trump, also featured in the list.

What is Google’s 'Year in Search'?

Google reveals the Internet’s spirit of times through an exploration of over one trillion search queries it receives each year.

In addition to year-end Searches, which highlights the top trends of 2016, Google also has several tools that give insight into global, regional, past and present search trends. Google Search tools can never be used to identify individual users because the company relies on anonymised, aggregated counts of how often certain search queries occur over time.

These tools are available year-round for one to play with, explore, and learn from at Google.com/2016.
