Junaid Jamshed laid to rest as thousands attend funeral

Religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel addressed the crowd gathered at the funeral. He also led the prayers.

KARACHI: Thousands attended funeral prayers for singer-turned-preacher Junaid Jamshed, who was killed in the PK-661 air crash last week, after which he was laid to rest at Darul Uloom Korangi in Karachi amid tears and sobs.

The prayers led by religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel were held at AKD Ground, DHA Phase 8, after Zuhr on Thursday (today) amid strict security.

Before prayers, Maulana Tariq Jameel addressed the crowd, and spoke at length about how unexpected life is.

People from all walks of life attended the funeral, including politicians Dr Farooq Sattar and Najmi Alam, showbiz personalities Saud, Faakhir and Aijaz Aslam and cricketers Muhammad Hafeez and Muhammad Yousuf.

The singer-turned-preacher was laid to rest at Darul-Uloom, Korangi area. His body was wrapped in the national flag.

Jamshed's wife laid to rest in Lahore

The funeral prayers for Neha Junaid, wife of Junaid Jamshed, were held in Lahore after which she was laid to rest in Cavalry Ground graveyard on Thursday afternoon.

The body of Neha Junaid was shifted from Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Lahore to her mother's house in Askari-10. Members of the family, relatives and a number of acquaintances attended the prayers.

The 'Rasm-e-Qull' of Neha Junaid will be held in Askari-13, Rawalpindi on Saturday, family sources told Geo News.

Junaid Jamshed's body identified through dental history

Jamshed’s body was identified through facial X-ray and dental history on December 12, 2016, six days after the fateful plane crash.

Body of Nahya Jamshed, his wife, were offered in a mosque near her residence in Askari 10 in Lahore.

She was be buried in Cavalry Ground graveyard, while a Rasm-e-Qul will be held in Islamabad.

Nahya's remains were handed over to her mother on December 12. Remains of Junaid Jamshed were delivered to his brother Humayun Jamshed yesterday.

Junaid Jamshed and his wife were among the 47 killed in the unfortunate PIA PK-661 crash near Havelian on Wednesday, Dec 7. Authorities have begun an investigation, which will be done in collaboration with experts from French-Italian aircraft company ATR.

Junaid Jamshed—a name that many from the 90s remember with fondness for heartwarming songs such as 'Dil Dil Pakistan', 'Tum Mil Gaye', 'Sanwali Saloni', and 'Woh Kaun Thee'—rose to fame two decades ago when he joined Vital Signs, a then-underground band that was awarded a record deal when it was noticed during a live concert.

He later turned to religion and shunned music and singing, but his numerous Naat and Hamd were appreciated by his fans worldwide.
