Sports can improve Pak-India relations, says Afridi

PESHAWAR: Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has said Pakistan-India relations can be improved through sports and dialogue.

Speaking to media after the Peshawar Zalmi Super Six tournament final at Islamia College on Sunday, Afridi said sports can play an important role in dissipating tensions between the two neighbours.

He said that Pakistan has always welcomed dialogue with India, and India should show flexibility in its stance as well.

On the possibility of a farewell match, the flambuoyant all-rounder said he played cricket for Pakistan for 20 years and does not need to beg PCB for a farewell match.

“After playing for Pakistan for 20 years, I won’t stoop down to this level where I have to beg for a farewell match. I won’t request the PCB for a farewell match,” he said.

Afridi thanked former Chief of Army Staff General (retd) Raheel Sharif, the nation and the media for the support.

“I thank you all for giving me so much respect,” he said.

Afridi urged the nation to support the government and the Pakistan Army in restoring peace across the country.

“I have no plans of entering politics,” he said in response to a question.
