Senate passes Bill to amend PAEC

ISLAMABAD: The Senate on Wednesday passed the Bill to amend the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) Ordinance, 1965.

Nawabzada Ghanzanfar Ali Gul, Advisor to the prime minister presented the Bill further to amend the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission Ordinance, 1965, [The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2010.

According to the Bill, with the placement of PAEC under the National Command Authority (NCA) the purposes of PAEC Ordinance are to be carried out through the NCA and its Secretariat Strategies Plans Division (SPD).

The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2007 provides necessary amendments in the PAEC Ordinance 1965 to cater for placement of PAEC and NCA and for various administrative / functional changes in the PAEC organization over a period of time.

Zafar Ali Shah opposed the Bill and requested the Chairman to refer it to the Standing Committee on Science and Technology for further discussion and staged a token walk-out as a protest. However, the House passed the Bill.
