SUKKUR: Police on Monday rescued a 10-year-old girl who was married to a 50-year-old man.
On the complaint of a family member, police took action and rescued the girl. Police also arrested her brother and father.
The minor girl will stay at a shelter home until the court announces a decision on the case.
A mindset that considers women as a commodity prevails despite child protection laws in place in the country.
A few days back a jirga in Jacobabad had asked a man to either pay Rs1.3 million or give his two daughters, aged four and eight, in Vani, a custom of giving girls as compensation. The demand was made as the man's brother was accused of having a relationship with a married woman.
