LAHORE: People celebrating franchises' decision to play Pakistan Super League final in Lahore must wait a little longer as Punjab Chief Minister CM Shehbaz Sharif has yet to make a decision on the matter.
On Tuesday, the CM presided over a cabinet committee meeting on security and safety during PSL final, but the participants failed to reach a conclusion on it. The meeting will again be held tomorrow (Wednesday).
During the meeting, participants took a detailed review whether PSL final should be held in Lahore. They also discussed providing PSL teams with 'head-of-state-level' security.
One of the suggestions included that no car should be allowed within the vicinity of Nishtar Park Sports Complex, in whose outskirts lays Gaddafi Cricket Stadium, on the day of the event.
"Pakistan is going through delicate times," said the CM. "To ruin the mala fide intentions of the enemy, we need a united stance of the people more than ever before."
He further said that all steps must be taken to protect life and property of the people and anti-state elements should be monitored closely.
"We will not relax until we do not avenge the blood of martyrs [in terrorist attacks]," he remarked. He also said that staff appointed for integrated command, control and integration will be sent abroad for training.
Towards the end, the participants prayed for the people who lost their lives in terror attacks across the country.
On Monday, all the PSL franchise owners decided to play the final in Lahore during a high-level meeting chaired by PSL Chairman Najam Sethi in Dubai.
The team owners took time to reinforce their solidarity and conviction with the decision of taking the final of the PSL back to its rightful home - the Gaddafi Cricket Stadium in Lahore - which is also the head office of both the PCB and the PSL.
