Punjab yet to finalise PSL final in Lahore

Meetings were also held earlier this week to review security and safety during PSL final, but the participants failed to reach any conclusion

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif on Friday presided over another meeting pertaining to security and safety during Pakistan Super League final, which is scheduled to be held at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on March 5.

The forum held a detail review of holding the T20 league final in the provincial capital, with participants presenting recommendations pertaining to the match's security, according to sources. They pondered over taking Army's assistance, besides Rangers and police, for the mega event.

Sources further said a decision in this regard is likely to be announced tomorrow.

Najam Sethi calls on Punjab CM

Meanwhile, PSL Chairman Najam Sethi also called on the Punjab CM and discussed with him holding of PSL final in Lahore.

"I am hopeful about the PSL final in Lahore," he said, after his meeting. "We will also continue to keep reviewing the security situation."

Addressing a press conference earlier today, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said all aspects of the PSL final were discussed in the meeting held on Tuesday. A meeting was also scheduled for yesterday but it could not be held, he added.

“Today another meeting chaired by CM Punjab will be held. The media will be informed about the decisions taken regarding the PSL final,” Rana Sanaullah said.

On Tuesday, CM Shehbaz Sharif presided over a cabinet committee meeting on security and safety during PSL final, but the participants failed to reach any conclusion.

During the meeting, participants took a detailed review of whether the PSL final should be held in Lahore. They also discussed providing PSL teams with 'head-of-state-level' security.

One of the suggestions included that no car should be allowed within the vicinity of Nishtar Park Sports Complex, in whose outskirts lays the Gaddafi Cricket Stadium, on the day of the event.
