MARDAN: Police on Thursday shot dead a man on suspicions of being a terrorist, after he failed to stop despite repeated commands by duty cops.
Police said that they signalled a man riding a bicycle on Katchehri Road to stop by, but he did not comply. The man, Olas Mir, fell on the ground after being hit by the police Armoured Personnel Carrier, in attempt to force stop him.
Yet, he stood up and tried to ran away, prompting the law enforcers to shoot him. Mir sustained injuries due to the firing and was taken to the DHQ hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds.
Angry protestors and the deceased’s family took the body to College Chowk to protest the killing, where they also briefly blocked roads.
The relatives said the deceased was a cloth vendor. They accused duty cops of demonstrating negligence, however, failed to answer as to why did he tried to run away.
The protestors demanded arrest of policemen responsible for killing, but dispersed after an FIR was lodged against said personnel.
