Balochistan celebrates cultural day with fervour

QUETTA: Man and women dressed in their ethnic dress celebrated Baloch Culture Day with much fervour across the province on Thursday.

Baloch community organised many musical, cultural and literary ceremonies to mark the culture day, which falls on March 2.

An event was held at Balochistan Press Club in which all aspects of life in Balochistan were highlighted. Cultural stalls showcasing Baloch cuisine, embroidery among others were also set up.  

Moreover a shopping mall in Quetta was decorated and many families were seen enjoying the day in their cultural dresses.

“This is a day of unity for us,” said a young man, who was wearing a Baloch Dastar (turban). “It allows us to reignite the love for our culture. We need to show our brothers how beautiful our culture is,” he added.

The Balochistan Assembly also marked the day as many politicians including provincial Minister of Health Rahmat Saleh Baloch showed up dressed in ethnic attire.

Moreover, ceremonies were also observed in other parts of the province. Kalat Scouts of Frontier Corps had also organised a ceremony in their camp in Khuzdar.

The event highlighted the significance of different elements of Baloch culture including its heritage, embroidery designs and cuisine.

Stalls were set up to allow people to get a real taste of the rich Baloch culture with mouth-watering Sajji on one side and stalls on archeological sites on the other. Folk singers also mesmerised the guests with their vocals.

Speaking on the occasion, guest of honour FC West Sector Commander Brigadier Rahat Sadiq remarked that Balochistan’s has a very rich cultural history.

“However, what stands out most about Baloch people is their simplicity,” he added. Baloch designs, special clothing, poetry, house arrangement and way of life are very appeasing, he remarked.

The special event was also attended by other prominent guests including Khuzdar Mayor Mir Abdul Rahim Kurd and Balochistan University of Science and Technology Vice-Chancellor Ahmed Farooq Bazai.
