KARACHI: Police on Friday baton-charged and tear-gassed participants of a protest in Karachi that caused massive traffic snarl-ups in old city areas.
The protesters blocked roads near Karachi's Fawwara Chowk, causing distress to commuters who suffered prolonged jams in Saddar, II Chundrigar Road, Metropole and nearby areas.
Long queues of vehicles were formed as traffic remained clogged for hours on Friday evening.
After demonstrating enough patience, the authorities finally tasked police to disperse protesting masses.
Besides baton-charging and tear-gassing the demonstrators, police also used water cannons to disperse them.
